  • Spring Season Kicks Off in Championship Style

    Published on April 4, 2016

It was an exciting opening weekend for ASA Hoops in the “Tournament of Champions” hosted by Boston Warriors.  ASA 4th West and ASA 3rd grade taking home the championship trophies . ASA 4th Grade West would open up the season taking down Rise Above 4th Gould by a score of 42-30, Mass Elite 4 Inglas 39-20, and WU 30-17 taking the pool championship. Coach Obi’s ASA 3rd Grade would also finish off opening weekend with an impressive 3-0 start to their Spring AAU Season claiming victory over GT Elite by a score of 34-12, Rise Above 3rd Grade 27-16, and Boston Warriors West 36-25 being crowned Pool Champions for their division.

On the South Shore 7th Grade Excel would wrap up an exciting weekend taking down Notre Dame of Fitchburg, MA in the Championship game of the “Rising Storm Tournament” by a score of 65-62. It would be an exciting game from the tip. Both Teams playing with size and agility on both sides of the ball. ASA Excel would lead throughout the game, as Notre Dame would continually answer as ASA would attempt to expand their lead. It would come down to big free throws down the stretch from Sam Prudovsky and Corey Szeto, as well as Patrick Murphy hitting a huge three pointer to extend the lead to 5 with under a minute left in the game. A Notre Dame layup would bring it to within three points, but it wouldn’t be enough as ASA 7th Grade Excel would be crowned Champions. 7th Grade Excel would advance first out of their pool by taking down Mass Elite 67-38, Boston Warriors 54-29, and the Cape Cod Warriors 52-44. Great Job this weekend!!
