ASA 11th grade SELECT Smith and 10th grade SELECT Burns participated in the New England Recruiting report (NERR) tournament held in Hanover, MA this past weekend. Both teams played extremely hard and finished at 2-1 for the weekend. In their first game of the tournament 10th grade Burns had a terrific win against the NH Spartans, coming back from as many as 15 points down the 2nd half. ASA’s relentless pressing attack lead by Sana Dahaba, Anton Lucas, Lance Utley and Patrick Isberg fueled the comeback and 52-51 win. 10th grade SELECT would lose a tough game to synergy basketball in game two but bounce back for a big 63-54 win over Evolution in their 3rd game.

11th grade SELECT ran into a very tough BABC team in game one and did not fair well. BABC’s size, length and 3-point shooting made it very difficult for ASA to get anything going and lost 59-31. In their 2nd game of the day ASA 11th matched up with a very tough Central Mass Swarm team. Down 6 points with just 30 seconds left in regulation ASA came back too tie game on a “And 1” from Justin Yue and a 3-point bomb at the buzzer from Bijan Rosen. In overtime down 3 with just seconds left ASA’s Aref Elbeik hit a 3-point fade-way from the left corner to tie game and send into double OT. ASA was able to pull away in the 2nd OT through the strong play of big-man Neils Wright who owned the inside throughout the contest. In game 3 ASA was able to outlast a physically imposing YABC team for a 62-56 win. Congrats to both teams on a great showing at this high powered event.
