    Published on May 17, 2013
ASA Hoops was represented in three different tournaments this past weekend.  Girl’s grades 7 and 9 took part in the State Tournament, both teams competed well.  Coach Dalzell’s 9th grade team won a game in bracket play and advanced to the elite 8 before losing.  In other action ASA 10 team Forest went 2-1 at the well-known Providence Jam Fest.  In their final game Sunday they went down 23 points in the first half before roaring back to beat Elite Potential by 6 points.  Very impressive victory and showing for this group.  ASA grades 6, 7 and 8 took part in the Warriors tournament at Wentworth University; all grades picked up wins and continue to improve.   9th grade girls seen below…

ASA girls had a great weekend at the Mass Huskies Tournament.  Our three girls teams combined for a 10-2 record and 7th grade team Totten went 4-0.  Our girls are getting better with each game and their future is bright.  ASA 6 Team Dobish seen below.

ASA 10 team Forest advanced to the Elite 8 of the State Tournament before losing a heart breaker to Mass Elite 51-50.  In advancing to the Elite 8, ASA 10 once again it proved that it can hang with anyone in Division 2.  ASA 6 Team Smith had a rough weekend in the win / loss column at the State Tournament.  However there success cannot truly be measured by wins, this team competed with the big boys of D2 and came very close to winning two games.   ASA 6 team Smith seen below.

  • State Tournament / Wolfpack Tournament

    Published on April 30, 2013
ASA Hoops made statements across the board this past weekend.  Our 4th and 5th grade teams qualified for both the Final Four at the State level and National Tournament.

4th grade Team Gershon went 2-1 beating the Bay State Monarchs and Middlesex Magic. ASA 4 was lead by Benson Lu, hitting 3-point shots and draining some big free throws.  They will move on to face Evolution in the semi-finals May 18-19.

5th grade Team Brickley continues to roll.  In their opening game narrowly beating MIBC by a free throw with no time on the clock from Mr. Clutch Johar Singh.  Moving onto Saturday ASA 5 beat Evolution by 15+ points.  This enabled Team Brickey to secure a first round bye and a match up with the Boston Warriors on Sunday.  A close game throughout ASA 5 prevailed beating the Warriors.   ASA 5 will face the Mass Warriors in the semi finals May 18-19.

In other action 13 ASA teams took part in the Southshore Wolfpack Tournament held at the brand new University Sports Complex in Hanover.  Our girls program had a great weekend.   All three teams picked up victories and gained some valuable confidence heading into the Huskies tournament this up-coming weekend.

ASA 4 Team Sullivan breezed through Saturday’s games going 2-0 and advancing to the championship game in their bracket.  Running into a very tough Wolfpack team ASA took the loss, but competed till the very end with only 5 players. Lastly ASA 10 Team Forest is really starting to look like a State title contender, winning their first tournament by going 3-1.  This is the third consecutive tournament Team Forest has advanced into the championship game.  Seen below Peter Honzik, Julian Murtagh-Lux and Team Photo.

  • Super Regionals / Zero Gravity

    Published on April 23, 2013
ASA Hoops 10th grade team made some serious noise this week at Super Regional’s.  The first two games were played against two of the best teams in New England:  Mass Premier Elite and NH Elite.  ASA did not have the firepower to compete and dropped both games.  As luck would have it ASA was given a bye in round 1 of the Silver bracket and was set to play the RI Renegades.  With a full roster for the first time all weekend, ASA quickly jumped out in front and won the game by 22 points.  This win advanced ASA to the semi-finals of the Silver bracket and would face the Bay State Magic.  ASA down most of the second half got hot late in the game to pull away with a 7-point victory, advancing them to the Finals.  This set up a match with the Blaze of Central Massachusetts.  A great game throughout, with the lead changing hands many times, the Blaze and their size was too much for ASA:  Blaze 57-55.  ASA took home 2nd place at in the Silver bracket at Super Regional’s and qualified for Nationals.

In other action ASA 7th grade Team Ellis picked up a big win Saturday night at the Zero Gravity Tournament.  Down for much of the first half ASA came back to take the lead in the second half to win by 3.  Great win for this group, the future is bright…

Mass Elite Tournament / Super Regional’s

ASA had a great second weekend in their Spring 2013 season.  Coach Brickley’s team went 2-0 at the Super Regional’s advancing to the quarterfinals in the Gold Bracket, before losing a very good New England Storm team.  This tournament propelled our 5th grade squad to up in the power rankings to #8 in Massachusetts.

At the Mass Elite Tournament 6th grade team Smith won their division and advanced to the 6th grade finals before falling to the RI Hawks.  In other action at Mass Elite 4th grade team Gershon continues to dominate going 3-0, 5th grade team Lansbury finishes at 2-1, and 7th grade team Clark has a great weekend at 2-1.  Great effort by all teams.  6th grade team Smith seen below.

  • "Spring Breakout" / "Spring Slam" 2013

    Published on April 9, 2013
The Armadillo’s had a very busy weekend; all 17 teams were in action.   Our 14 boys teams participated in the Warriors “Spring Break Out”, while our 3 girls teams competed in the Zero Gravity “Spring Slam”.

Our third grade team breezed into the championship game Sunday morning with a 2-0 record.  They ran into a tough Boston Warriors team and lost by 3.  A great game and a great effort by the young Armadillo’s, Coach Clark has them playing with confidence and energy.  Third Grade seen below...

Perhaps our most impressive performance of the weekend was seen at the 4th grade level.  Team Gershon and Team Sullivan advanced to Sunday’s championship round with a 4-0 record.   Team Sullivan came up with a win to take home the championship while Team Gershon ran into a very tough team and was defeated.  Great effort by both groups:  CONGRATS.

In their ASA coaching debut the Father  / Son Lansbury team did very well advancing to the championship round with a 2-0 record.  They ran into a very skilled and tough opponent and lost a well-fought battle.

In other action the 9th and 10th grade teams played late into the day Sunday both coming up a bit short in their championship games.   Coach Forest and English did a great job leading our teams against some of the best competition in the State.

10th grade Adam Mikula getting to the rack and 9th grader J.P Knight making the extra pass.

Our girl’s teams had a very competitive weekend.  Our 6th grade team gained some very valuable experience in their first tournament action.   Coach Totten’s 7th grade team went 2-0 winning both games by double digits.  This is a talented group of girls who play great team ball.

  • ASA Hoops finishes season with 3 tournament championships

    Published on June 5, 2012
ASA Hoops had a great weekend in it’s last of the 2012 spring AAU season.  Congratulations to ASA-6, ASA-7, and ASA-8 on winning tournament championships at the Boston Warriors Spring Finale.

ASA-6 went 3-0 on the weekend to win its first tournament championship of the season.  This team was lead by defensive terror Henry Terry throughout the weekend.  His defensive pressure and fast pace style helped ASA control tempo and push the ball for easy baskets.

ASA-7 was lead by leading scorer Bijan Rosen.  Rosen has a very well rounded offensive game and can get to the basket or drain the 3-point shot.  In addition to Rosen, ASA-7 is a very gifted passing team, they play extremely well together and are a hard working group.

ASA-8 had a very interesting weekend.  Having two teams at this age level can sometimes make for a very challenging weekend for Coach Greg Maneikis.  This particular weekend was very unique.  Both 8A and 8B advanced to the championship game after going 2-0 in bracket play.   This was the first time all season both teams had advanced to a championship round.  Due to the nature of the brackets, ASA-8A would be playing ASA-8B for the championship trophy.  Coach Smith jumped into action and would coach 8B while Maneikis lead his 8A group.  An 11-point lead for 8A at the half turned into a tie game with just 9 seconds left.  Chris Keville sank two free throws for 8A giving them a 2-point win and the championship trophy.   Congrats to both teams on a great year.

In other action ASA-9 had another strong weekend, finishing at 2-1, beating the Bay State Flash and Mass Premier before falling to a strong Southshore Wolfpack team.  ASA-11 had a big win on Sunday against the Kingston Thunder.  Scott Cordner and A.J Levine had big days combining for 30 points.

  • ASA-4, 5, 8A & 8B have great weekend at Mass Rivals Tournament

    Published on May 21, 2012
ASA-4 continued to show why they are a top-level team in Massachusetts.  After losing it’s first game the NE Storm ASA 4 bounced back to beat:  Mass Evolution and the Blaze to finish there season at 12-5.  Congratulations to Coach Brickley and his team on what they accomplished.  Looking forward to seeing what those guys do in years to come.

ASA-5 also had a great weekend finishing at 2-1 and losing in the championship game on Sunday to an extremely talented Mass Evolution A-team.  In their first two games ASA-5 had a terrific comeback win edging BSS by 2 points and in similar fashion came back to beat Mass Evolution B-team.

Coach Maneikis 8th grade group is gaining steam heading as the season comes to a close.  In 6 games this weekend he lead his teams to a 4-2 record and missed the championship games for both teams by just a few points.
  • ASA 6 & 9 participate in the Warriors Spring-3 Shootout.

    Published on May 14, 2012
ASA 6 had a very good weekend.  The guard play was spectacular with; Henry Terry and Chandler Daugherty leading the way to two victories on Saturday.   Both players shot the deep ball very well and made terrific decisions in the open court.  Blair Mims and Paul Miller-Schmidt continued their inside dominance while Justin Woo’s 3-point shot continues to improve.  ASA-6 beat Mass Elite and the Boston warriors in convincing fashion to set up a championship game on Sunday Morning.   Although tied at the half, the New Hampshire Hustle proved too much for ASA-6, beating them by 9 points. Henry Terry and Justin Woo in action below...

ASA-9 ran into some serious size this weekend.  In its first game on Saturday ASA-9 was confronted with a BSS starting front line of 6’6, 6’5.  Coming off the bench for BSS was 6’4 and 6’3, without 2 of it’s own big men due to school athletic conflicts, ASA-9 eventually wore down and lost by 6 points.  Peter Honzik battled inside but ASA couldn’t knock down enough 3 - point shots to make up for its lack of size.

In it’s second game on Saturday ASA played a very good and well balanced team from Connecticut.  Again with only 6 players ASA-9 wore down and again dropped a game.  Thankfully Sunday ASA-9 had eight players in the line-up and beat a very scrappy team from Up-state NY by 12 points.
  • ASA-4 and 8 make strong showings at State Tournament

    Published on May 7, 2012
ASA-4 continued it’s season long success by opening up the State Tournament with a 15 point victory over the Boston Titans.  This set the stage for “winners” game vs Bay State Jaguars.  ASA-4 dropped this game by a bunch and could not figure out how to break the constant full court pressure the Jags applied.  After two games at the State Tournament Coach Brickley’s, bunch had earned the two seed for bracket play and a match-up with the Boston Warriors.  ASA-4 showed up ready to play Sunday morning and took down the Warriors to once again set up a rematch with the Bay State Jaguars for the State Championship.  The Jags relentless ball pressure and hot shooting proved too much for ASA-4.  Although ASA-4 played extremely hard they had to settle for a second place finish and the silver medal.  The Jags are a very strong team, and will give ASA-4 a measuring stick for improvement.  Congratulations to ASA-4 on a great showing at States.

ASA-8 started the weekend off with a great start beating the Mass Ducks 39-36.  Moving onto the “winners” game of their bracket they dropped a heartbreaker to “Team Elite” by 2 points.  With just 3.5 seconds left “Team Elite” hit a shot to give them the dramatic victory.  Moving onto bracket play ASA-8 had secured the two seed in their pool and was gearing up for a Sunday Showdown with the Mass-Jags.  Sunday morning also proved to be a very close game with ASA dropping the game by 1 point.  Chris Keville has a very strong showing leading ASA-8 with 22 points and a last second shot that just rimmed out.  Although ASA-8 lost two games at States and was eliminated their two losses were by a combined 3 points.  This team played very hard and has made big improvements.

  • ASA-9 makes noise in States / ASA-4 & ASA-12 doing work at Zero Gravity Tourny

    Published on April 30, 2012
ASA-9 big a big splash at the State Tournament this weekend.  In it’s first game of the weekend they took down a very physical and fast Boston Titans team, a close game throughout, ASA pulled away in the last few minutes.  ASA ran into a hot shooting Warrior team in the second game of the day and lost by 7 points.  ASA-9 earned the second seed in their pool and was ready for Sunday Bracket Play.  Sunday belonged to Lukas Kay.  Kay’s shooting lead the way to both victories he scored over 50 points in the two victories over Mass Elite and the Boston Spartans.  After playing four games in two days ASA-9 dropped its 5th game in two days and third of the day in the quarterfinals to the Blaze 51-45.  Jamie Kennedy did his best to keep ASA in the game with his rebounding and full court scoring drives, but fatigue was too much to over come.  Congrats to ASA-9 on a great run in the State Tournament.  Lukas Kay, Peter Honzik & team picture seen below.

ASA-12 went 2-1 in their final tournament of their careers.  Coach Zeikas came out of his sabbatical to Coach this talented group of young men.  ASA defeated NORTH SHORE KNIGHTS & CWB to finish in second place in the Zero Gravity tournament.  ASA-12 Seniors:  Jon Dean, Tyler Kimble, James Burke, Jack Duggan, Savaughn Dinkins, Chris Ducott and Mike Wojewodzik

ASA-4 continues it’s winning ways by going 3-0 in the Zero Gravity tournament this past weekend.  Lead by Lucio Dahlstedt-Brown and Anthony Nakhle ASA rolled through the competition in convincing fashion.  In it’s final game of the tournament all 9 players scored in a 49-22 victory over the Blaze.
