AAU Basketball Information
About ASA Hoops:
In the spring of 2011 ASA Hoops offered boys AAU teams for grades 5th-11th grade. The 8th, 10th and 11th grade teams had excellent showings in States and all qualified for the Massachusetts Final Four. In the spring of 2012 we are expecting multiple teams at each level. We are looking forward to the challenge of competing for the Massachusetts State title at each grade level.
Philosophy:
ASA Hoops prides itself on teaching the game of basketball. Improvement is not only measured by playing time or how one does in a game but by skill development in practice. AAU is very competitive and as a staff we do TRY and play as many players as possible while still playing for the win. There MAY be games where a player receives little or no playing time depending on the game circumstance.
General Information:
All games are in a Tournament Style format. On any given weekend a team could play 3-4 games, from Friday evening until Sunday afternoon.
4th and 5th grade teams will play in five tournaments while 6th-11th grade will each play in six tournaments (possibly more depending on team). Tournaments are spread around the State but usually are usually no longer then 20-60 minute commute. Practice will start Mid-March with Tournament play beginning later that month. Tournaments will last until late May or early June depending on team. Each team will have one mandatory practice per week with one optional Sunday night skills session.
All participants will need to submit finalist fee, birth certificate and a recent report card prior to first practice. In addition each finalist must register with AAU and submit a copy of his AAU membership card.

Parent Interaction:
We do encourage parents to attend games and be an active participant in creating a positive environment for their child’s games. We do not encourage parents to yell over the coaches and try to give instruction to their child while the game is taking place. We do not encourage parents to attend practice and exhibit similar behavior. Any negative feedback to a coach should be via email and will always follow the 12-24 hour rule (reflect on email and sleep on it) before communication takes place.
